We LOVED this tour! The best of our trip, by far. Fergus shared with such wide-ranging literary, historical and off-the-beaten path knowledge. It was great to hear about all of these literary and historical figures and get a view of Prague that was different from the standard, crowded-places tours.

The perfect guided tour experience! The guide was so enthusiastic, dedicated and authentic, so easy to listen to him! Actually gonna recommend this to every person that’s going to Prague from now on. If you want a local to tell you all about the city, give you great recommendations and just introduce you to Prague, do this tour!

This was such a fascinating tour! As someone who knows Prague well I'm often a little reluctant to go on tours here in case the information was repetitive but this wasn't the case here. This was by far the best tour we did in Prague. So interesting, away from the hordes and we learnt about the literature of Prague and those who created it.

We had planned this walking tour for the last day of our study trip. The students were tired, but Fergus really made his stories and anecdotes come alive grabbing their attention and keeping them engaged for the duration of the walk. If you're interested in history this is the tour you need. A tour portraying Prague's history from the Middle Ages till now, with interesting anecdotes and stories. I hear the content of the tour may change from time to time, but when I got on the walk the last stop where the tour ended was a beautiful spot with a great view on the river and the national theater, so that's a plus. Also the tour is very personal and not like those standard corporate city tours.

Fergus really knows everything about Prague and its literary history. It’s a tour that makes you think about your own life while exploring the beautiful city of Prague. Filled with historical knowledge and intriguing anecdotes, it’s the perfect tour for anyone with an interest in Kundera or Kafka. And all of that is done by a really nice guy who makes you feel more than welcome in Prague. Definitely recommend!

The tour was very comprehensive … within the first 15 minutes it was very clear Fergus loves what he does … and that comes through in the tour. Succinct when necessary, well researched and also thoughtfully curated.
With the literary tour I thoroughly enjoyed discussing Hrabal, one of my favourite writers and widening my understanding of Prague’s literary movements with the historic and socio-economic movements.

I went on the Prague Literary and Historical tour yesterday, and I had an absolute blast!! I have been living here for over a year, and passing many of the locations we saw without realizing their significance! In terms of walking, the walk is mostly flat, and done leisurely. I'm not an athletic person, and I did not feel rushed or tired while doing it. The content of the tour itself is what sets it apart! I enjoyed learning abouts the different defenestration incidents (it seems to be a very popular way to get rid of people who irk you). The tour guide, Fergus, is very personable, and a skilled and knowledgeable storyteller! The people on the tour were all from different backgrounds and places, and he managed to keep us engaged! I would definitely consider going on this tour again (as in, any time I have visitors coming over)!

Enter Deeper Into Mystery - as a long-term expat writer in Prague (I’m penning this review under an alias), I didn’t expect to have too many new ideas sparked by this tour. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Milan Kundera called Central Europe “a laboratory of twilight.” If you want to delve quickly and deeply beneath the typical tourist veneer, I highly recommend taking Fergus’s excellent tour. Fergus made the streets of Prague come alive with a range of historic and literary characters from Prague’s rich past until the present day. Uniquely researched, he presents this alternative history of free spirited characters whose rebellion, resistance and creativity will leave you with insights that will linger long afterwards. Don’t be afraid of the 3 hour length - the time will fly by, and he includes time for a memorable coffee in a cafe.

We joined Fergus for a special tour, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Bohumil Hrabal which took us to his hometown. We started out early, meeting at the train station in Prague and from that point on, Fergus handled everything. It was a calm, well spaced out tour, with good balance between information, walking and breaks. Very informative and well researched. The path was well curated. Even the places we stopped for food were part of the tour and purposefully chosen. I enjoyed it immensely.

This is hands down the BEST walking tour in Prague! It's not some tour with touristy attractions to get your money. Instead, the guide was super passionate about the history and literature of Czechia, it's crazy how in-depth his knowledge is, and you can feel his joy in sharing his passion and knowledge with the participants. I've been living in Prague for a few months now and honestly am not a tourist anymore, but I learnt so much about the city and its culture and history! I can only imagine people will learn so much more if they are just visiting. If you only want to know which bar or restaurant with cheap beer to go to, this may not be for you. But if you are curious to know about the history and background stories, I can't recommend more!

My gf (Hungarian) and I (Czech) had an absolute blast on this literary walking tour in Prague! Fergus's passion for Czech literature and history made the (more than) three-hour journey fly by in a whirlwind of excitement. We were captivated by his wealth of knowledge and couldn't get enough of the fascinating stories he shared. I was rather pleasantly surprised how much I still remember from the classrooms and we've both really enjoyed the stop at the Globe bookstore.

Fergus guided us around town and told us many captivating stories about historical events and also gave us some interesting background information on some of his favorite czech authors. He was really enthusiastic about history and literary history. We could really feel Fergus‘ appreciation of the city. He was able to answer all of our questions and gave us many recommendations of things to do and places to visit in and around Prague.

Having very little knowledge of the history of Prague but knowing it has had a great cultural impact on European history, this tour was a great way for me to get to know the city in a more in-depth manner than just walking around and taking pictures of amazing architecture in a beautiful city. As someone who enjoys literature, I greatly enjoyed learning about an area of literature about which I knew very little. Fergus is energetic, knowledgable, passionate, and caring. I had the privilege of going with a friend of mine who lives here in Prague and is friends with him so it was a merry party of friends. The stop for hot chocolate was a wonderful addition too, especially on such a cold, wintry night. 🙂

Spent 4 full days visiting Prague solo and this tour is definitely one of the highlights! If you are like me and want to soak in the city's spirit in all possible ways, you can't miss on walking the steps of the poets, writers, and intellectuals that Prague has hosted and nurtured throughout the centuries. What I appreciated the most was Fergus' instinctive ability to adapt to his audience: this tour is very friendly for those who approach Prague's literary history with curiosity and little or no knowledge. But I am a literature graduate and had a lot of background knowledge and pedantic, specific questions and since I was alone he could immediately step up his game and we could dive in the most interesting conversations and exchanges! Definitely recommended for anyone.

A really enjoyable tour with a different angle to the usual city tours. By taking us on a journey of some of Prague's literary greats we were also to take in the history, culture and atmosphere of the city.

The guide was excellent with a clear love and passion for Prague and the stories it's held throughout history.

A funny and thought-provoking tour ... this was an incredibly well-researched literary and history tour. The guide is energetic and fun. He obviously loves his adopted city and brims with detailed stories to weave a narrative about Czech history and writing. I'll never look at a window the same way again.

Discovered this tour when talking to the tour guide at the Globe Bookstore and so happy we did. He is a great storyteller and put together a lovely mixture of literary and historical facts as well as interesting stories whilst taking us on this tour of Prague. It gave us a deeper insight into the city's past and we saw some places from a different, often surprising point of view. Can't wait to have a look at the reading list he shares!

Fergus is such an enthousiastic guy. He tells a-typical stories which is very interesting. And the views are so beautifull. If you want to have a tour that's a bit different than normal, this is the one to do.

New and interesting view of the city - I’ve visited Prague a few times, but through this tour learned the history from a new and exciting viewpoint. I had an extremely enjoyable and informative afternoon on this tour. I would recommend to both locals and to tourists. I particularly enjoyed the parts of the tour about Franz Kafka and Milena, and the parts about the 30 years war. Plus I learnt a lot about the various defenestrations that have happened in Prague (spoiler: there’s a lot of them, and they’re surprisingly pretty historically significant).

I decided to hop on this tour with my friends the same day I learnt about it, and it’s safe to say it was the best decision we could have made. The guide is incredibly kind and has a way of storytelling that truly allows you to come close to whatever anecdote or fragment of history or literature they’re talking about, and to have an overall better perspective on both the city of Prague and those characters that influenced it into being the way it is now.

I would recommend this tour to anyone who’d like to lightheartedly dive into the (beautifully) tragic story of Prague.

Fergus was very enthusiastic about Prague people and the enthusiasm was catching on! The tour went into much more detail than other tours and he told it in a way that offered letting yourself sink into the stories and really see it happening in front of your inner eye. He chose great locations to stop, quiet and not too crowded.

I’ve had the pleasure of being guided around Prague by Fergus today. He artistically captured both Prague’s main historical events and intertwined it with its rich famous literary history. Although he hasn’t been doing this for too long, he could answer every question we had in detail. He also managed to handle our 16 months old toddler with patience and humor, no easy feat while sharing detailed stories with a crowd.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a tour filled with rich information, delivered by a passionate native English speaking inhabitant of this beautiful city.

My experience with the tour was really good. I'm a bohemist, I've already been to Prague a few times, I've lived in Czech republic, so when I saw, that the tour will be guided by someone from a different country, I was quite sceptic. And my bad! The guide was so passionate about the city, that I really felt in love with Prague once again. There was a really nice balance between historical/literature/culture facts and just casual fun facts, everything with a dose of dark humour.
